by Sophia Bennett

31-year-old Christopher Vandenburg of Kalamazoo was arrested early Tuesday morning, facing charges of unlawful driving away of an automobile, after a series of criminal activities in Richland Township. The incident began shortly before 2 a.m. on North 28th Street, where Vandenburg was caught stealing a vehicle. He managed to evade authorities by driving through a fence to leave the property.

An hour later, deputies were dispatched to the 7100 block of East D Avenue for a home invasion in progress. While en route, they spotted Vandenburg driving away from the scene. As he attempted a U-turn along M-89, Vandenburg collided with two police cruisers before fleeing on foot.

After a brief chase, Vandenburg was apprehended. Deputies later discovered several warrants for his arrest, as well as stolen mail inside his vehicle. Notably, Vandenburg was out on bond for a previous breaking and entering charge.
