Kajal and Layak Sheikh Held for Baby Sale Conspiracy

7-day-old rescued in Gurugram baby trafficking case

In a swift and successful operation, Gurugram Police arrested two individuals—a eunuch named Kajal and her associate Layak Sheikh—for attempting to sell a 7-day-old baby boy for Rs1.5 lakh in Sector 57.

The case took a surprising turn after Kajal filed a false kidnapping complaint to mislead police. She claimed that the newborn, allegedly adopted from her neighbour Phulo Devi on August 18, had been kidnapped from her home while she was away on August 24.

However, the police grew suspicious and launched a rapid investigation. Within nine hours, they located and rescued the infant from Wazirabad’s Dhani, recovering the baby and a stolen mobile phone from the accused.

The arrested were identified as:

Layak Sheikh (28), a native of West Bengal, living in Gurugram for five years.

Kajal, a eunuch from Bihar, residing in a slum near Saraswati Kunj.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Sheikh, desperate for a child, had offered Rs1–1.5 lakh to Kajal in exchange for a baby. Seizing the opportunity, Kajal handed over the newborn adopted by her fellow eunuch, faking a kidnapping to cover up the illegal transaction.

Police praised the efficiency of the team involved in rescuing the child safely and ensuring that the accused were brought to justice swiftly.

“A swift operation by the police foiled the conspiracy. Both accused were arrested, the child was safely recovered, and handed back to the complainant,” a Gurugram Police spokesperson confirmed.
