When the bank repossessed his Maruti Ertiga for unpaid loans, most people would have accepted their fate — but not Kailashkumar Jain. Determined to reclaim his vehicle, Jain tracked the car to a remote village in Panchmahal and stole it under the cover of night.
The car, purchased as a used vehicle from Idar, was now owned by hairdresser Manhar Raval. Raval told police that he had parked the vehicle near his uncle’s house in Suliyat village, Morva taluka, on the night of January 9. The next morning, the car was missing.
Police investigation revealed Jain’s involvement. He was arrested on Thursday, and the Maruti Ertiga was successfully recovered.
During questioning, Jain admitted that he had bought the car in April 2024 with a bank loan but failed to pay the instalments. The bank seized the vehicle on July 24, 2025. Believing it had been sold, he later discovered the car in Suliyat. Using a spare key he had retained, Jain executed a precisely planned theft around midnight.
