Chennai: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested three individuals—including a woman—for defrauding the public of Rs62 lakh by promising government jobs. The accused, Kabali (53) and Selvi (45) from Triplicane, along with Karuppasamy alias Kaviraj (45) from Thoothukudi, were apprehended after a complaint from Loganathan, a driver from Madipakkam.

Loganathan, aged 45, lost Rs5 lakh after being promised a driver’s job in the police department by the accused. Investigations uncovered that Kabali and Selvi duped job seekers by falsely claiming Karuppasamy was a sub-inspector in the police force. They assured aspirants of jobs as drivers in the police and tourism departments or as Armed Reserve (AR) constables.

Additionally, the trio collected money by promising office assistant jobs in district administration offices. Following their arrest on Saturday, the accused were remanded to judicial custody. The CCB continues to investigate to identify other victims and collaborators.
