The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday arrested a 22-year-old man for stealing valuables from a passenger aboard the Trivandrum Express while it was halted at Katpadi railway station.

The accused has been identified as K. Hari Prasanth, a native of Erode, Tamil Nadu. The incident came to light after B. Sudeesh (34), a software engineer from Kottayam, Kerala, reported that his laptop, wristwatches, and gold jewellery had gone missing during his journey to Chennai.

Following the complaint, the GRP launched an investigation. During a routine patrol at the Katpadi station, officers noticed a young man acting suspiciously. When questioned, he gave conflicting statements.

Upon further interrogation, Hari Prasanth confessed to the theft. Authorities recovered the stolen items and filed a case against him. He has been remanded to Central Prison, Vellore, pending further investigation.

The GRP has increased surveillance and is urging passengers to remain vigilant while traveling.
