LANDOVER, Md. – A 24-year-old Bowie man, Justus McDougal, has been arrested and charged following a felony assault with a firearm incident that occurred on Central Avenue in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
According to the Maryland State Police, the incident began around 3:25 p.m. on August 7, 2025, when a motorist called 911 to report that another driver had pointed a gun at them while driving in the area of Landover Road and Central Avenue.
The case was immediately investigated by troopers from the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crimes Initiative. Their investigation led to McDougal being identified as the suspect.
On September 7, authorities executed a search warrant at McDougal’s residence in Bowie, where they seized a handgun, an AR-style pistol with no serial number, multiple high-capacity magazines, and other evidence. During the raid, McDougal attempted to destroy his phone, but was taken into custody without further incident.
McDougal is facing multiple charges, including:
First-degree assault
Second-degree assault
Use of a firearm in a felony crime
Possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle
Attempting to destroy evidence
He was booked into the Prince George’s County Division of Corrections and later released on bond.
The Maryland Department of State Police reaffirmed their commitment to reducing gun violence and improving public safety along state highways. Authorities continue to investigate gun crimes and are urging the public to provide information about unsolved cases, including the murders of Delonte Hicks, Charles Marks, and Nyah Hairston.
