Justin Wright Arrested After Armed Carjacking, Firing at Officers in Folly Beach
FOLLY BEACH, S.C. – A 32-year-old Moncks Corner man, Justin Wright, is facing more than a dozen serious charges following an armed carjacking and gunfire exchange with officers during a high-speed pursuit on Sunday.
According to Folly Beach Police, Wright carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint before leading law enforcement on a dangerous chase. During the pursuit, he rammed a police cruiser, crashed through a gate at Lighthouse Inlet, and fired shots at pursuing officers.
Officers from Folly Beach Police, assisted by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended Wright in nearby sand dunes and recovered the firearm used in the incident.
Jail records show Wright faces multiple felony charges, including:
Attempted murder
Armed carjacking without great bodily harm
Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
Possession of a firearm by a felon
Pointing and presenting a firearm
Discharging a firearm
Receiving stolen goods
Two counts of possessing, selling, or disposing of a stolen vehicle ($2,000–$10,000)
Reckless driving
Driving under suspension (first offense)
Hit and run (property damage)
Failure to report striking highway fixtures
Unauthorized vehicle operation on a beach
Folly Beach Police Chief Gilreath praised his officers, stating, “The bravery shown by our officers under direct gunfire ensured our community remained safe during a very dangerous and fast-moving situation.”
Justin Wright is currently being held without bond at the Charleston County Jail.
