CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Sycamore Brewing co-owner Justin Brigham appeared before a judge Monday following the filing of additional charges earlier this month. Brigham, 44, was first arrested on Dec. 11 in connection with an alleged incident involving a minor in Stanly County.
According to authorities, deputies responded to a 911 call on Dec. 10 at a home in Stanfield after the child’s parents reported finding Brigham inside their daughter’s bedroom. Law enforcement officials said Brigham was later located nearby and taken into custody.
Brigham now faces several felony charges, including three counts of statutory sex offense against a child under 15, second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, soliciting a child by computer, and assault inflicting serious bodily injury. Investigators allege the assault charge stems from an incident involving another individual at the residence.
After the additional charges were filed, Brigham’s bond was increased from $10 million to $11.25 million. During a court hearing on Dec. 29, the case was submitted to a grand jury, with indictment proceedings scheduled for Jan. 5. His next court appearance is set for Jan. 26.
Brigham co-founded Sycamore Brewing with his wife in 2013. Following the initial charges, she announced that he had been removed from the business. The case has generated widespread backlash, leading several companies across North Carolina to discontinue carrying Sycamore Brewing products.
