Justices D.I. Dipeolu and A.O. Faji of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, have sentenced six Chinese nationals to one year imprisonment each for their roles in cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.
The convicted individuals — JIA You (aka A. You), Wang Zheng Feng (aka Feng), Liu San Hua, Chen Wen Yuan, Liu Beixing, and Wen Zong Xu (aka Li Long) — were part of a larger group of 792 suspects apprehended during the EFCC’s “Eagle Flush Operation” on December 19, 2024. The crackdown targeted scammers involved in cryptocurrency investment schemes and romance fraud.
Initially pleading “not guilty” when arraigned in February 2025, the defendants later changed their pleas to “guilty” during proceedings on June 23, 2025. Following this, the prosecution team led by Babatunde Sonoiki, U.S. Kyari, and B.M. Isah urged the court to pass judgment.
The court convicted all six and sentenced them to one year imprisonment, with sentences backdated to December 10, 2024 — their arrest date. Each convict was also fined ₦1,000,000 (One Million Naira).
Additionally, all seized devices, including mobile phones, laptops, computers, and routers, were ordered forfeited to the Nigerian government. After serving their sentences, the Comptroller General of Immigration will repatriate the convicts to China within seven days.
