FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Cape Coral man, identified as 25-year-old Ju’Ray Reymund Smith, was arrested Monday afternoon following a high-speed police chase through the streets of Fort Myers.

The incident began around 4:23 p.m. on April 14 when Fort Myers police attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Fowler Street and Hanson Street. Smith reportedly ignored police signals and fled at high speed, weaving through traffic and disregarding stoplights.

The chase ended near Delaware Avenue, where officers detained Smith at gunpoint. During the search, authorities found a vape pen containing synthetic cannabinoids in his pants pocket, along with additional vaping items.

Inside the vehicle—a 2008 BMW—officers discovered a 9mm handgun resting on the driver’s seat. The firearm’s serial number did not return any matches in law enforcement databases. While Smith is not a convicted felon, he was taken into custody.

Smith now faces two third-degree felony charges: possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. The vehicle was impounded, and all evidence was submitted for forensic processing.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court in May.
