TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) — A Mexican national residing in Putnam County has been sentenced after admitting to using another person’s Social Security number—belonging to a Texas prison inmate—as his own, according to federal authorities.
Julio Juarez Garcia, 32, who lived in the Village of Pandora, pleaded guilty in July 2025 to the misuse of a Social Security number.
According to a statement from the Department of Justice, Garcia used the stolen identity to file a tax return for the 2023 tax year using false information. An investigation later revealed that the SSN belonged to an individual currently serving a sentence in a Texas prison.
During the legal proceedings, Garcia admitted to being in the United States illegally. He is now in federal custody and awaits removal (deportation) from the country.
Officials continue to warn the public about the risks and consequences of identity theft and tax fraud, both of which are federal offenses with serious penalties.
