Julian Mead, 41, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a brutal hammer attack on a woman in Aspley, Nottingham, and for stealing her English bulldog.
The violent incident occurred on 1 October 2024 around 9:30 p.m., when Mead, wearing a balaclava, ambushed the victim on her driveway on Bells Lane. He struck her repeatedly on the head and body with a hammer, leaving her with a punctured lung, broken ribs, a fractured hand, a broken shoulder blade, and multiple head injuries requiring stitches.
Despite the victim’s attempt to escape by crawling across the road, Mead continued the assault until her partner intervened.
During the chaos, Mead also entered the home and stole the victim’s English bulldog, named Winnie. The dog has not been found.
Originally charged under a newly proposed “dognapping” offence, the charge was later amended to burglary.
Following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court in April, Mead was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon, and burglary.
He was sentenced to 12 years in custody with an additional five years on extended license upon release.
