Toronto police arrested two suspects linked to a downtown robbery and extortion investigation, while a third suspect remains at large.
Officers responded on June 11 at 4:30 p.m. to reports of an assault near Adelaide and Peter Streets. Authorities say the victim had been communicating with a woman on Snapchat using the names “Nina,” “Nina Lopez,” and “Sabrina.”
The victim went to the woman’s residence and was allegedly assaulted, robbed, and extorted by two men. The victim managed to escape and contacted police.
On Monday, 30-year-old Julia Valiante and 20-year-old Saleem Abdulla were both arrested. Each faces multiple charges, including assault with a weapon, robbery with violence, robbery with an offensive weapon, extortion, and possession or distribution of obscene matter.
Police are still searching for a third suspect, described as a man in his early 20s with black hair, a black goatee, and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black Nike zip-up hooded sweater, black pants, and black shoes.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and have released images of the suspects to the public.
