The West Bengal Special Task Force has arrested two individuals from Murshidabad district in connection with an alleged OTP trafficking and illegal activity network.
The accused have been identified as Juhab Sk and Suman Sk, both residents of Gudhia in Murshidabad.
How the Arrests Took Place
On February 10, acting on specific intelligence inputs, the STF arrested Juhab Sk from Murshidabad and recovered a mobile phone from his possession. During sustained interrogation, investigators allegedly discovered that he, along with his associate Suman Sk, was sharing One-Time Passwords (OTPs) through WhatsApp in exchange for money.
According to officials, the OTPs were subsequently used to facilitate illegal activities.
A case has been registered at STF Headquarters Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
Juhab Sk was taken into police custody for further investigation.
Co-Accused Arrested
Subsequently, the STF arrested co-accused Suman Sk. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court in Bidhan Nagar and remanded to police custody.
However, the arrests have sparked concerns among family members. Golam Hossain, uncle of Suman Sk, alleged that Suman was arrested from a mosque in Berhampore around 11:30 pm and claimed that officials did not provide proper documentation at the time of arrest.
Investigation Continues
The STF is continuing its probe to determine the scale of the OTP trafficking network and identify other associates possibly linked to the operation.
