Teen Faces Adult Charges in Warren County Gun Violence Case

WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (VDN) — A 15-year-old boy accused of shooting his uncle in Warren County has turned himself in, according to Sheriff Martin Pace.

The shooting occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, in the 500 block of Heartwood Drive. Deputies arrived to find a 33-year-old man with gunshot wounds to both legs. The victim was transported to a Jackson hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as Juepharion Wesley, the victim’s nephew. Wesley surrendered to authorities the next day at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, May 30.

He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Due to the nature of the crime, Mississippi law mandates that Wesley be charged as an adult.

At the time of the shooting, Wesley was already out on bond for a previous November 20 incident involving shooting into an occupied dwelling in the Rancho Road area.

Sheriff Pace emphasized that the decision to charge Wesley as an adult is based on state statute, not law enforcement discretion:

“By State statute, any violent felony involving a firearm by anybody 13 or older is automatically considered an adult,” said Pace.

Wesley is currently being held without bond in the Warren County Jail pending his initial court appearance.
