Two men have been arrested for submitting forged documents in a voter registration scam, police confirmed on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Juber (35), a cab driver from Ramesh Enclave, and Nadeem (30), a resident of Kirari Suleman Nagar, were arrested after an investigation into fraudulent voter ID applications.
On December 30, the electoral registration officer for assembly constituency 9 (Kirari) lodged a complaint with the Prem Nagar police station, reporting that forged voter registration applications had been submitted. While the voter registration applications of three individuals were found to be legitimate, an investigation revealed that Juber’s documents were altered. The fraudulent activity involved tampering with the residential address on his Aadhaar card. Though the Aadhaar number was authentic, the address was changed to help Juber obtain a voter ID card.
Further investigation revealed that Juber had given his original Aadhaar document to Nadeem, who operates a Jan Sewa Kendra in Mangolpuri. Nadeem, who processes online applications for services such as voter IDs and Aadhaar cards, used his position to alter Juber’s address and submit the fraudulent voter ID application on his behalf.
