A late-night traffic stop in Palestine led to the arrest of two local residents on multiple drug and forgery charges, according to police.
Officers with the Palestine Police Department stopped a vehicle around 11:38 p.m. on Feb. 4 in the 1100 block of East Palestine Avenue.
Police said the driver, Juan Manuel Vega, 42, was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. During the stop, officers reportedly discovered a bag containing suspected methamphetamine on Vega.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of additional suspected meth hidden inside a container with a false bottom. Investigators also reported finding marijuana, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit U.S. currency and prescription medication.
Authorities said the passenger, Katherine Kylene McCreight, 41, attempted to discard a prescription pill bottle containing suspected illegal drugs during the stop.
Officers later reported finding more suspected methamphetamine as well as several financial cards belonging to other individuals inside a bag McCreight claimed as hers.
In total, police said they recovered more than 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than four ounces of suspected marijuana and eight counterfeit $100 bills.
Both Vega and McCreight were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and forgery of a financial instrument. Vega also faces an additional charge for driving with an invalid license.
The two suspects were booked into the Anderson County Jail as the investigation continues.
