ELSA, Texas – A community tip helped Elsa police arrest two suspects in connection with multiple burglaries. Juan Salazar, 17, and Jose Rios, 21, were taken into custody on September 2, 2025, after a citizen recognized them from a social media post and contacted authorities.
The arrests followed a string of break-ins and property damage incidents in the area. According to the Elsa Police Department, both men now face a range of charges.
Juan Salazar has been charged with:
Three counts of burglary of a building (State jail felony) – $20,000 bond each
Criminal mischief – $2,000 bond
Theft of property under $2,500 – $2,000 bond
Theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000 – $20,000 bond
Possession of marijuana under 2 ounces – $500 personal recognizance bond
Jose Rios faces the following charges:
Three counts of burglary of a building – $20,000 bond each
Criminal mischief – $5,000 bond
Theft of property under $2,500 – $5,000 bond
Both suspects were arraigned on September 3, 2025, and are currently held at the Hidalgo County Jail.
Police credited the quick arrests to community involvement. “Your cooperation plays a vital role in keeping Elsa safe,” the department said in a statement.
As the legal process continues, officials reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
