Brownsville Man Juan Jose Delgado Arrested for Exploiting Seniors in Loan Scam

A Brownsville man, Juan Jose Delgado, 37, was arrested Friday following allegations that he targeted senior citizens and low-income families in a fraudulent loan scheme.

The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) charged Delgado with six counts of identity theft and four counts of exploitation. According to authorities, Delgado approached vulnerable families promising to help them secure grants for home repairs and renovations—grants that did not exist.

Instead, Delgado allegedly used the victims’ personal information without their knowledge to obtain loans in their names. He then withdrew the loan funds for his own benefit, disappearing before victims realized they had been defrauded.

CCSO received multiple complaints from victims, estimating that Delgado illegally withdrew around $300,000. All victims identified Delgado as the mastermind behind the scam.

Delgado is currently held at Carrizales Rucker Detention Center awaiting his arraignment.
