SANTA MARIA, CA — A violent confrontation in Santa Maria left one man dead and another behind bars on Tuesday afternoon, according to local authorities.
The Santa Maria Police Department responded just before 2:30 p.m. to a report of a stabbing in the 200 block of North Western Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered two injured men — one with stab wounds and another with a gunshot wound.
The gunshot victim, 24-year-old Julio Sanchez Lopez, was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The stabbing victim survived the attack, police confirmed.
A third individual at the scene, identified as Josue Anguiano, 31, of Santa Maria, was arrested in connection to both the stabbing and shooting.
Anguiano has been booked into the county jail on multiple charges, including:
Murder
Attempted murder
Dissuading a witness
Multiple felony firearm violations
The investigation remains active. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, but say no other suspects are being sought at this time.
