MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Citronelle man awaiting trial for a 2022 attempted murder charge has been arrested twice in 2024, raising serious questions about why his bond was never revoked earlier.
Joshua Skipper, 40, was initially arrested in 2022 for allegedly shooting a man in Citronelle. According to court records, his trial is currently scheduled for November 2025.
But while out on bond for that charge, Skipper was arrested again in May on a first-degree assault charge. Authorities say the crime actually took place in November 2024, when Skipper allegedly cut a man’s hand with a large knife outside a lounge. Despite the seriousness of the charge, jail records show he was released the next day on bond.
Even after that incident, his original bond on the attempted murder charge remained intact. Authorities have not yet explained why.
Now, Skipper is back behind bars after allegedly attacking his own daughter last month. Court documents reveal he grabbed her by the throat and threw her down a flight of stairs while intoxicated. He also allegedly threatened to shoot her and two witnesses.
Skipper was booked into Metro Jail on September 11 on a new charge of domestic violence. The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to revoke his bond on September 16 — five days after the most recent incident.
As of this writing, it remains unclear why Skipper’s bond wasn’t revoked following his May arrest for assault. Local reporters say they’ve reached out to prosecutors for clarification but have not yet received a response.
Skipper’s trial on the 2022 attempted murder charge remains on the court docket for November.
