EVANSVILLE, Wyo. — Two individuals were arrested in connection with a multi-state fraud and identity theft investigation, the Evansville Police Department announced.

On January 22, officers responded to a local hotel where a man and woman refused to leave after being unable to pay for their room. When officers checked their identification, they discovered the names and licenses belonged to other people.

During the investigation, officers found multiple forms of identification and Social Security cards believed to belong to other individuals, as well as a vehicle reported stolen from a dealership in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Colorado Springs Police Department is pursuing felony warrants related to the stolen vehicle.

Authorities also recovered a quantity of marijuana that met the statutory threshold for felony possession.

The suspects’ real identities were later confirmed, and both were arrested on outstanding warrants. Joshua Mettler, the male suspect, had five warrants from multiple states, including two extraditable warrants. The female suspect had three warrants, two of which were extraditable. The warrants originated from Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.

Both individuals face charges including possession of forged documents, possession of a controlled substance, interference with a peace officer, and willfully obtaining personal identifying information to commit fraud. Investigators are also seeking an additional possession of stolen property charge. Authorities allege one victim’s identity was obtained after a car break-in.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
