PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man is facing a felony theft charge after police say he was caught with thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen telecommunications cable.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded early Saturday morning after AT&T reported a cable theft near Sookey’s Creek. When officers arrived, they found Joshua McCoy, 34, of Pikeville, with approximately $3,000 worth of telecommunications cable in the bed of his truck.

McCoy reportedly told investigators he found the cable lying on the ground. However, AT&T informed police that surveillance video captured the theft, contradicting McCoy’s statement.

McCoy was arrested and charged with theft between $1,000 and $10,000, a felony offense under Kentucky law. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
