A Tupelo man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his mother following a welfare check in the Villages Subdivision off Coley Road on April 29.

When Tupelo police officers arrived at the residence, they encountered a man at the scene and shortly after discovered the body of 62-year-old Sherri Lynn Lazore. According to reports from the Daily Journal, she had suffered fatal injuries from an attack involving a shovel.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Joshua D. Lazore, was detained on site and later transported to the Tupelo Police Department for questioning. He was formally charged with one count of first-degree murder.

On April 30, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Lazore to be held without bond. The case is expected to be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury for further proceedings.
