CANTONMENT, Fla. — A 45-year-old man was arrested after deputies say surveillance footage and incriminating text messages linked him to the theft of a $10,000 trailer from a local business.
Joseph Shane Wilson, of Cantonment, faces a felony grand theft charge following the incident at Sheds Plus, located on West Nine Mile Road. The business reported a blackout edition 7×16 enclosed Rocksolid trailer stolen from its lot.
Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) investigators reviewed surveillance video that captured the trailer being hauled away by an older model, silver and gold Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicle was later traced back to Wilson.
At the time, Wilson’s cellphone had already been seized during a separate narcotics investigation. On the day of the theft, ECSO said Wilson sent a message stating, “I got this thing and I’m taking it to weezys shop.” Deputies also discovered a photo of the stolen trailer on the phone, taken that same day.
Further incriminating Wilson, a message found on his phone read:
“It’s gonna be really embarrassing if I go to jail because I went and stole a $10,000 trailer because I was worried about lot rent and your car payment and power bill… I go and blow $500 at casino this morning…”
Wilson was arrested and later released from the Escambia County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
