CHUBBUCK, Idaho — A 40-year-old Chubbuck man has been arrested and charged with felony domestic battery after an alleged physical altercation took place in his home early Sunday morning.

Police responded to the residence of Joseph Rogers around 5 a.m. after a woman called 911 to report a domestic dispute, according to police and court records obtained by the Idaho State Journal.

Authorities said the incident followed a night of drinking, during which Rogers had consumed alcohol at a party. On the way home, an argument reportedly escalated and turned physical once the two arrived at Rogers’ residence.

According to police, Rogers allegedly grabbed the woman by the neck and pushed her to the ground, leaving a visible scratch. A child who was in the home at the time did not witness the physical altercation but told police they heard Rogers yelling.

Rogers was arrested and booked into the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello. He was later arraigned before 6th District Magistrate Judge David A. Hooste, who released him on his own recognizance.

Rogers is scheduled to return to court on September 29 for a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors will attempt to establish probable cause to move the case to district court.

If convicted of felony domestic battery in the presence of a child, Rogers could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
