Joseph Louis Camino Charged in Federal Court Assault Incident

BRADDOCK, Pa. — Joseph Louis Camino, 56, of Braddock, has been charged by a federal grand jury following an assault on Monday, Dec. 16, at a federal courthouse in Harrisburg.

Camino was allegedly shot multiple times by another court security officer during the incident and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The indictment claims that Camino knowingly brought a folding knife, with a blade longer than 2 ½ inches, into the federal courthouse with the intention to assault a court security officer. The knife was reportedly used in the attack.

Camino, a convicted felon with a criminal history that includes burglary, theft, robbery, and homicide dating back to the late 1980s, faces significant charges. If convicted, he could face up to 27 years in prison, supervised release, and a fine. The sentence will ultimately be determined by a federal judge based on guidelines and other factors.

The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Haugsby and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
