Joseph James Wanous, a 42-year-old resident of North Mankato, Minnesota, was arrested following an extensive investigation into his methamphetamine distribution activities. Agents from the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force (CRDVOTF) had been tracking Wanous for several months as part of an operation targeting meth sales in southern Minnesota.

During the investigation, an undercover agent made contact with Wanous and arranged multiple methamphetamine purchases. Over the course of these transactions, Wanous sold the agent large quantities of methamphetamine, totaling more than 150 grams across three counties in southern Minnesota.

On April 8, 2025, agents from CRDVOTF and the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at Wanous’ residence near Spring Lake Park in North Mankato. During the search, authorities found Wanous in the basement of the home. Agents seized an additional 70 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, unused zip bags, and other materials commonly used in drug distribution. In total, roughly half a pound of methamphetamine was confiscated during the investigation.

Several aggravating factors were identified, including sales across three counties, the proximity to a park zone, and Wanous’ position in the drug distribution network. He was charged with first-degree Aggravated Controlled Substance crimes by the Waseca County Attorney’s Office.

CRDVOTF Commander Scott O’Brien emphasized the importance of multi-agency collaboration in tackling drug trafficking. “Several agencies were able to work together, resulting in the seizure of a large amount of methamphetamine that was being distributed throughout southern Minnesota,” O’Brien said. “The task force will continue to target upper-level drug dealers and hold them accountable.”

Wanous was arrested and faces serious drug charges, with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the MN River Valley Drug Task Force, South Central Drug Investigations Unit, North Mankato Police Department, and Waseca Police Department, assisting in the operation.
