WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced federal charges against two medical staff members in Southern California for allegedly assaulting and obstructing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers during a targeted operation earlier this month.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Jose de Jesus Ortega and Danielle Nadine Davila have been charged with assaulting a federal officer and conspiring to obstruct federal duties through force and intimidation. Ortega was arrested earlier today, while authorities are currently seeking Davila.
DHS officials strongly pushed back against media reports suggesting ICE agents had arrested individuals inside a medical facility. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin clarified, “These claims are completely false. The individual fled law enforcement and ended up near the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center, where staff members interfered with the lawful arrest.”
The incident occurred on July 8, 2025, during an ICE operation targeting two individuals illegally present in the U.S. As officers approached the targets—wearing clearly marked bulletproof vests—one of the individuals, Denis Guillen-Solis of Honduras, fled on foot, eventually reaching the vicinity of the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center in San Bernardino County.
According to DHS, Ortega and Davila allegedly:
Physically assaulted ICE officers
Dragged the officer and Guillen-Solis into the facility
Locked the doors to prevent law enforcement from re-entering
Blocked ICE vehicles
Falsely reported a kidnapping to local police
“These individuals are being charged for their crimes today,” McLaughlin stated. “Anyone—citizen or not—who assaults or obstructs law enforcement will face consequences, including arrest.”
