MINNESOTA — In a horrifying case that shocked legal and medical professionals alike, Jordan Nicole Borders, 34, has been sentenced to 468 months in prison (nearly 39 years) for a calculated campaign of medical child abuse, torture, fraud, and murder.
Borders was convicted of:
4 counts of theft by false representation
3 counts of child torture
3 counts of stalking
1 count of first-degree murder
The investigation revealed that Borders fabricated illnesses in her children to gain money and control. She forced two of her children to wear casts and neck braces for conditions they didn’t have and even withdrew blood from her 9-year-old son, who later died. Prosecutors said she manipulated the healthcare system to collect over $18,000 from the state and approximately $35,000 from non-profits.
Healthcare workers noticed inconsistencies—particularly the boy’s dangerously low hemoglobin levels despite no clear diagnosis. Borders blamed the hospitals, but her other children told police they witnessed their mother drawing blood from their brother. The boy described frequent incidents that left him feeling “sick-sleepy.”
Borders also falsely diagnosed her children with brittle bone disease, stole medical equipment, and kept one child in a cast for two years. The abuse extended beyond fabricated illnesses—children testified about being starved, threatened, and forced to stand naked in freezing temperatures. One child was made to use a wheelchair during their father’s visits to support the illusion of illness.
Police found syringes and other medical supplies at the family’s home in Crow Wing County, providing further evidence of Borders’ elaborate and abusive scheme.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison called it one of the most disturbing cases of his career:
“The facts we proved in court are nothing short of horrifying. It strains the imagination and breaks my heart to think about the torture and anguish Borders inflicted.”
Judge Patricia Aanes, who presided over the case, emphasized Borders’ “particular cruelty” during sentencing. The jury delivered a guilty verdict in June 2025, following harrowing testimonies from the victims and professionals.
Borders will spend the next several decades behind bars in a Minnesota state prison. Meanwhile, her children begin a long journey toward healing from the emotional and physical trauma inflicted upon them.
