BRYAN, Texas — A College Station man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after being convicted of an armed robbery at a local convenience store in 2023, according to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office.
Jontae Webber carried out the robbery just before midnight on February 12, 2023, at a Circle K/Valero on Harvey Road. Webber pointed a gray and black firearm at the store clerk, demanding cash, rolls of coins, and cartons of cigarettes.
Although the clerk couldn’t immediately identify Webber, they noted that he was wearing blue coveralls. What Webber didn’t realize was that a tracking device had been placed inside the stolen items, allowing police to follow him to a nearby apartment complex.
When authorities searched the apartment, they discovered:
The firearm used in the robbery
The blue coveralls hidden in a trash can
Stolen cash and cigarettes concealed in cabinets and food containers
Webber’s trial began on March 3, 2025, and he was convicted just three days later. Prosecutors also revealed that two days after his arrest, Webber attempted to escape from St. Joseph’s Hospital’s emergency room. Additionally, he had prior robbery convictions in California and had been out of prison for less than a year before committing the Brazos County robbery.
Judge John Brick sentenced Webber to 35 years for aggravated robbery.
“The defendant’s greed led him to use a loaded gun to terrorize and steal from a complete stranger less than a year after being paroled by California for doing the same thing,” said Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Golden and Jessica Escue in a statement on March 12.
Authorities praised the College Station Police Department for their swift response, ensuring Webber would no longer pose a threat to the community.
