Jonathan Maurer Charged After Truck Attack on Youth Baseball Fundraiser

Authorities in Nevada County, California, have filed criminal charges against 49-year-old Jonathan Maurer for intentionally driving his truck into a group outside a Safeway store in Truckee over the weekend.

Prosecutors say Maurer targeted children and parents participating in a youth baseball fundraiser on Donner Pass Road. Four people were injured, including a child with a broken wrist, though all victims are expected to recover.

Charges and Legal Action

Maurer faces:

Eight counts of attempted murder

Multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon

Sentencing enhancements including great bodily injury and prior criminal history

He was arrested at the scene and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. Maurer is scheduled for a formal court appearance in Nevada County Superior Court.

Community Reaction

Nevada County District Attorney Jesse Wilson said, “The allegations that this act was intentional and directed at kids is hard to comprehend… Our office will hold this individual accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Authorities have not released a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing. Residents are reminded that all evidence is still being collected and reviewed.
