MARTIN, Ga. — Jonathan Jordan, 25, of Dahlonega, was arrested Saturday after allegedly stealing two vehicles in Stephens County and Athens-Clarke County, authorities said.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:50 a.m. to a report that a Dodge Durango had been stolen overnight from a Providence Lane residence near Freedom Drive in Martin. A FLOCK traffic camera later tracked the Durango into Franklin County.
While deputies were investigating, they discovered a broken-down white Volkswagen Jetta near the residence. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Athens-Clarke County and was impounded.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., Franklin Springs Police Department officers located the stolen Durango and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Jonathan Jordan, was arrested by Franklin County deputies and transported to the Stephens County Jail by SCSO deputies. The Durango was returned to its owner.
Investigators determined Jordan had stolen the Volkswagen after leaving a homeless shelter in Athens. After running out of gas, he abandoned the Jetta, then stole the unlocked Durango and drove into Franklin County.
Jordan faces charges of Felony Theft by Taking and Driving Without a License. He also has an outstanding warrant for Theft by Taking in Athens-Clarke County. Sheriff Rusty Fulbright reminded residents to lock vehicles, remove valuables, and take keys inside, especially during warmer months.
