FRISCO, Texas — Jonathan Elizalde, 21, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Frisco after attempting to flee a traffic stop on foot.
The incident occurred around 4:22 p.m. on Stonebrook Parkway. Officers stopped the vehicle driven by 25-year-old Genccis Barrientos Echeverria of Garland after detecting the smell of marijuana. When asked to exit the vehicle, the passenger, later identified as Elizalde, ran from the scene.
A nearby resident reported seeing a man jump over their fence, which led officers to find Elizalde hiding under bushes nearby. A search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana and a handgun.
Elizalde, wanted in Dallas County for capital murder and theft of property, was additionally charged with evading arrest. Barrientos Echeverria was arrested for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Both suspects were booked into the Frisco Detention Facility. The victim in the capital murder case has not been named.
Frisco Police Chief David Shilson praised the officers’ swift actions and thanked the community for their assistance, saying the arrest removes a violent offender from the streets and enhances public safety.
