WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Jonathan Brown-Murphy, 44, of Upper Marlboro, will serve 63 months in prison after pleading guilty to robbing multiple banks across Maryland and Washington, D.C. in 2022.
Over two days, Brown-Murphy attempted or successfully robbed six banks, using disguises and face coverings to avoid detection. On May 23, 2022, he targeted five banks within two hours, including an incident at a Truist bank in Temple Hills where he threatened a teller with a note demanding money. The teller refused, and he left.
Less than an hour later, he robbed a Capital One branch in Southeast D.C., passing a threatening note and mimicking having a gun. The teller gave him cash.
Two days later, Brown-Murphy tried to rob a Wells Fargo in District Heights but fled empty-handed after a bank employee triggered an alarm. He led police on a chase, fleeing on foot after abandoning his vehicle.
Arrested shortly after, Brown-Murphy was indicted federally in August 2022. He has two prior robbery convictions.
He pleaded guilty on July 12, 2023, and was sentenced in May 2025 to 63 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
