A Johnston man has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in federal prison for leading a conspiracy that used stolen identities to fraudulently finance luxury vehicles, including Land Rovers, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island.

Dennis Odoom, 27, admitted in court that he provided a co-conspirator with a fraudulent driver’s license and drove the individual to a dealership in New Hampshire, where they picked up a Land Rover valued at $96,256. The vehicle was financed using credit obtained through stolen personal information, and Odoom offered the co-conspirator $2,000 for their involvement in the scheme.

In addition to the New Hampshire Land Rover purchase, other co-conspirators used similar tactics to fraudulently secure financing for a second Land Rover from a dealership in Rhode Island. The total sales price for the second vehicle, including finance charges, was $111,183.

Odoom pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft on December 12, 2024.

Co-defendant Roy Sweets, 27, of Pawtucket, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud on March 18, 2025. Sweets is scheduled for sentencing on June 10, 2025. He used a fraudulent driver’s license to purchase a 2020 Range Rover Sport HST from a Rhode Island dealership on May 10, 2022, with a total sales price of $111,183.

A third defendant, Adalberto Mauricio Romero, 28, of Providence, faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

This case highlights the growing issue of identity theft and fraud, and law enforcement continues to pursue those responsible for these types of schemes.
