U.S. Marshals Arrest John Lamar Armstrong in Dayton for Aggravated Murder and Rape
DAYTON, Ohio (WOIO) – John Lamar Armstrong, 50, was arrested Monday afternoon in Dayton by the United States Marshals following a multi-agency manhunt. Armstrong was wanted in connection with the aggravated murder of Juvar King and the rape of a juvenile, authorities said.
The East Cleveland Police Department began investigating the murder of 46-year-old Juvar King, of Warren, after he was reported missing on February 5 when he failed to pick up his daughters. On March 17, King’s body was discovered outside a residence at Chapman Avenue and Terrace Road in East Cleveland. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner confirmed King had been fatally shot in the head.
Armstrong was later identified as a suspect and a warrant for aggravated murder was issued.
In May, a separate rape charge involving a juvenile was brought against Armstrong by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, further intensifying the search for him.
Authorities tracked Armstrong to a residence in the 3600 block of Delphos Avenue in Dayton. As officers approached, a shot was fired from inside the home, prompting the deployment of a SWAT team. Despite the dangerous situation, no injuries were reported, and Armstrong was taken into custody without further incident.
Another suspect in King’s murder, 28-year-old Nathaniel Crockett, was indicted by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury on June 17. He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center on Tuesday.
Armstrong will remain in custody in Dayton pending extradition to the Cleveland area to face charges in both Cuyahoga and Summit counties.
