A Marshalltown man facing 14 criminal charges, including human trafficking and solicitation, has accepted a plea deal reducing the charges in exchange for guilty pleas.
Johmell Keyshawn Rosemond, 23, pleaded guilty on Sept. 2 to eight counts of pandering and three counts of pimping, all classified as Class D felonies. As part of the agreement, prosecutors will drop one human trafficking charge and two counts of solicitation of an aggravated misdemeanor. A plea hearing is scheduled for Sept. 26 at noon, according to Iowa Courts Online.
Under the proposed sentence, Rosemond would face up to five years per count, with the pimping and pandering sentences to run partially concurrently. He also faces multiple fines and surcharges, including:
A $1,025 suspended fine plus a 15% surcharge per count
A $1,000 human trafficking victim surcharge per count
Mandatory DNA testing, sex offender registry enrollment, and other court costs
Rosemond is already on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry following a 2020 third-degree sexual abuse conviction in Story County.
Court documents state that between January 7 and January 13, 2025, Rosemond orchestrated a prostitution ring involving multiple victims. Investigators say he recruited four individuals, three of whom agreed to engage in sex work under false promises of payment and subtle threats. Rosemond allegedly solicited eight individuals for prostitution and tried to engage in sex acts with two of the victims himself.
Marshalltown Police Chief Chris Jones commended the partnership between his department and the Marshall County Attorney’s Office.
“Our agency has complete faith in their efforts to protect crime victims within Marshall County while also holding offenders accountable,” he said in a statement.
Rosemond remains in custody pending his sentencing.
