Joel R. Gouin Injures Woman in West Rutland Store Knife Attack

Man on multiple releases held without bail after gas station assault

WEST RUTLAND, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Vermont State Police have apprehended Joel R. Gouin, 39, following a violent incident at a Stewart’s Shops convenience store in West Rutland. Gouin, who was reportedly on 10 active conditions of release, injured a woman during the attack.

Police responded promptly after an alarm sounded at the store around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. Officers witnessed Gouin fleeing the scene with a knife and quickly detained him. The preliminary investigation revealed that Gouin threatened both store employees with the weapon, caused injury to one employee, and attempted to steal cash and tobacco products.

Gouin has been held without bail at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
