A senior manager from a private bank in Jodhpur, Pawanshiv Bhagwan Dadich (31), was arrested by the Mumbai police for allegedly aiding a cyber fraudster in siphoning off Rs42 lakh from a corporate bank account. The arrest was made by the South Region Cyber Cell on Friday, with Dadich facing charges of cheating, forgery, breach of trust, and violations under the Information Technology Act.
Dadich, who managed a bank branch in Jodhpur, is accused of helping a fraudster alter the account holder’s mobile number and email address in the bank’s database without consent. The complaint was lodged on March 16 by a garment enterprise based in Kalbadevi, which reported that an unknown individual had illegally transferred Rs41.8 lakh from their corporate account via internet banking.
Investigators discovered that the accused had exploited API (Application Programming Interface) banking facilities, submitting fake PAN and Aadhaar cards to change the account holder’s contact details. This manipulation allowed the fraudster to gain control over the account, leading to the unauthorized transfer of funds.
Police stated that it was Dadich’s responsibility to verify the credentials of the account holder. The account was based in the Mumbai branch, yet the API form was filled out at the Jodhpur branch, where Dadich failed to ensure the genuineness of the KYC documents. During a search of his residence and vehicle, authorities found a cheque book and passbook belonging to one of the beneficiaries, but Dadich was unable to provide an explanation for their possession.
Dadich has been remanded to police custody following his court appearance in Girgaum, as investigations continue into the fraudulent activities.
