Jockey Suresh Arrested for Murder of Electrician in Chennai

Victim strangled for mobile phone near Fort station

Chennai police have arrested Suresh (35), a jockey, in connection with the murder of R. Asmath Basha (38), an electrician whose body was found beside the railway tracks near Fort railway station.

According to police, Suresh, along with an accomplice identified as Srinivasan (52), strangled Asmath Basha to death for his mobile phone. A postmortem report confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation, leading police to register a case of murder.

CCTV footage revealed that Basha had boarded a Beach-bound suburban train from Perungudi around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday and alighted at Fort station at about 10:50 p.m. His body was discovered the following morning near the tracks.

Upon arrest, Suresh confessed to the crime, admitting that the motive was to steal the victim’s phone. Police have launched a search for Srinivasan, who remains at large.
