J&K Police Solve Telecom Tower Theft Case in Budgam, Arrest Three Accused

Eight stolen tower batteries recovered; FIRs registered in Charar-i-Sharief and Chadoora police stations

Police in Budgam district have cracked a recent case of theft at a telecom tower site in Kakawring and arrested three suspects, recovering eight stolen batteries in the process.

According to an official police statement, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, a Site Technician with Altus Company (handling Jio Reliance Towers), filed a complaint at Police Station Charar-i-Sharief after a theft attempt at a telecom tower site. Acting promptly, police registered a case under FIR No. 46/2025, invoking Sections 62 and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

During the investigation, police discovered that multiple thefts had recently taken place at various tower sites across the Charar-i-Sharief sub-division. Upon questioning several suspects, two individuals confessed not only to the Kakawring theft but also to another incident at a Hanjura village tower site.

The investigation led to the recovery of eight stolen tower batteries, and three individuals were subsequently arrested. The accused have been identified as:

Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie (Arigam, Budgam)

Mohammad Rafi Khan, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Khan (Arigam, Budgam)

Muhammad Shafi Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar (Hanjigund, Chadoora)

The third accused was handed over to Police Station Chadoora, where another FIR (No. 120/2025) was filed under Section 303(2) BNS.

Police have reiterated their commitment to preventing criminal activity, especially targeting vital infrastructure like telecom towers, and ensuring public safety through continued vigilance.
