J&K Police Arrest Two in ATM Card Swap Fraud

Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully cracked an ATM card swap fraud case reported on March 21, 2025, following a complaint by Mohd Bakir Mir, a retired government employee from Chittergul.

According to the complaint, on March 15, 2025, the complainant experienced a technical issue while withdrawing cash from an ATM in Chittergul. A young man inside the booth deceitfully swapped his ATM card and later withdrew a significant amount using the swapped card.

A case (FIR No. 10/2025) was registered under Sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station Uttrasoo. Investigations led to the arrest of two suspects from Kulgam district: Zahoor Ahmad Itoo and Muzamil Ahmad Itoo, both residents of Sanigam.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, and stolen cash was recovered on April 9, 2025.

Anantnag Police urged the public to be vigilant while using ATMs and avoid seeking help from strangers to prevent such frauds.
