In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Jammu & Kashmir Police arrested seven drug peddlers across Kashmir, including a married couple.
According to an official spokesperson, police stopped an auto near the Syed Mansoor shrine in Srinagar’s Zaldagar and seized a significant narcotics consignment. The couple, Ahmad Sheikh and his wife Uzma Wasim from Hamdania Colony, Bemina, were among those arrested in the vehicle (JK01H-9826).
During searches, police recovered a large quantity of narcotic substances from the couple. Investigations revealed they used their rickshaw and family cover to evade detection while distributing drugs among youth. They have been charged under the NDPS Act, and the probe is ongoing.
In a separate operation on January 3, Waseem Ahmad Bafanda of Dangerpora Mallabagh Hazratbal was arrested during a routine check at Sazgaripora. Officers seized narcotics and Rs3,020 from his possession.
Two more suspects, Waqar Ahmad Duloo from Government Housing Colony Ellahi Bagh Srinagar and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo, were also arrested with contraband substances.
In Ganderbal, police detained Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Benhama Lar, recovering 3.81 kilograms of Bhang Patri and 32 grams of Charas. Meanwhile, in Pulwama, a naka party at Police Post Newa intercepted a vehicle driven by Hilal Ahmed Wani of Zadoora, seizing 12.65 kilograms of Charas powder.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated their commitment to combat drug trafficking and urged citizens to report any information related to drug peddling for swift action.
