Jammu & Kashmir: The police in Jammu and Kashmir have arrested five individuals in separate operations across Baramulla and Pulwama districts, in a major crackdown on drug smuggling and peddling.
In Baramulla’s Sopore area, police apprehended Mohd Umar Dar and Nisar Ahmad Bhat alias Shanu, residents of Naseem Bagh, based on disclosures from previously arrested suspects in FIR No. 23/2026 under the NDPS Act. A significant quantity of Codeine Phosphate bottles was recovered from their possession, highlighting the presence of a larger drug network.
In a related anti-drug drive, Farooq Ahmad Malla, resident of Hadipora, was arrested after attempting to flee during a naka check at Hadipora Crossing. Police recovered a charas-like substance from him.
Meanwhile, Pulwama Police conducted a naka check at Hawal Naka near Bridge and intercepted a vehicle (Thar, registration UP38 AK 7313) traveling from Pulwama to Shopian. They arrested Mohd Fahad of Hindupora Khada, UP, and Aman of Begam Sarai, Sambhal, UP, recovering 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the vehicle. A case was registered under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 08/2026).
Authorities emphasized that more arrests and recoveries are expected as investigations continue. Both Sopore and Pulwama police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, urging the public to cooperate in eradicating the menace of narcotics from society.
