Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal successfully solved two theft cases by arresting three accused involved in stealing 37 sheep and recovering the stolen animals.
On September 8 and 11, 2025, Police Stations Kheerbawani and Kangan received complaints from Jalal-ud-Din of Kokagund Sehpora and Wahid Ahmad of Chadrakote A/P Hayan Kangan reporting the theft of 37 sheep during the nights of September 3-4 and 5-6, respectively.
FIRs were registered under relevant laws, and special police teams were formed under SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal’s directions. Led by the SHOs of Kheerbawani and Kangan police stations, the teams launched an intensive investigation.
The SHO of PS Kheerbawani apprehended Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Arigoripora Kangan, who admitted to purchasing six stolen sheep from Momin Bashir Ganie (aka Sahil) along with accomplices Basit Bashir and Hilal (aka Huzaib). Police recovered six sheep and arrested Shabir Ahmad Bhat and Momin Bashir. A vehicle used in the crime (registration No. JK04D-0256) was also seized.
Additionally, SHO PS Kangan arrested Gh Nabi Dar from Pulwama, who led police to recover 15 stolen sheep. Further arrests and recoveries are anticipated.
