J&K Police Arrest 3 in Jio Tower Battery Theft Case

Stolen Batteries Recovered from Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam

In a breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Budgam have solved a telecom theft case involving stolen tower batteries from Jio Reliance sites. Three accused have been arrested, and eight stolen batteries recovered.

The case was initiated following a complaint from Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, a technician working with Altus Company (Jio Reliance Towers), who reported an attempted theft at the Kakawring tower site. Based on his complaint, FIR No. 46/2025 under Section 62, 303(2) BNS was registered at Police Station Charar-i-Sharief.

During investigation, police discovered similar thefts at nearby tower sites in the Charar-i-Sharief sub-division. After questioning several suspects, two individuals confessed to the thefts at both Kakawring and Hanjura village sites.

The accused have been identified as:

Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie (Arigam, Budgam)

Mohammad Rafi Khan, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Khan (Arigam, Budgam)

Muhammad Shafi Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar (Hanjigund, Chadoora)

The accused were later handed over to Police Station Chadoora, where FIR No. 120/2025 was also registered under Section 303(2) of the BNS.

J&K Police reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on telecom infrastructure crimes and safeguarding public assets in the region.
