The Bhoiwada police have cracked the sensational Rs4.07 crore jewellery heist in Parel, arresting Jitu Navaram Chaudhary, a 23-year-old sales executive, along with two accomplices who purchased part of the stolen gold.
Police said Chaudhary, who had rejoined A Dalichand Jewellers on August 31, used the opportunity to steal 4.5 kg of gold ornaments and Rs3.53 lakh in cash from the shop. The theft was discovered on September 9, when shop owner Arvind Sanghvi (68) noticed the back shutter lock broken, the cupboard emptied, and Chaudhary missing.
A worker from a nearby eatery told police he saw Chaudhary leaving with a large bag on September 8, which raised suspicions. Following Sanghvi’s FIR, police traced Chaudhary to Sadda village in Rajasthan, his native place.
Acting quickly, teams from Bhoiwada Police and Crime Branch Unit 4 coordinated a successful raid in Rajasthan, arresting Chaudhary and two buyers of the stolen gold. So far, police have recovered approximately half of the stolen gold.
Authorities confirmed that two more suspects, who absconded with the remaining portion of the loot, are still on the run. Efforts are underway to recover the rest of the valuables and apprehend all involved in the crime.
