In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 49-year-old man from Jhajjar, Haryana, allegedly killed his live-in partner, Sonia (40), after a heated argument. The incident occurred on April 21, when Sonia reportedly made derogatory remarks about Jitendra’s 20-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, calling her unkindly and stating that she would be pushed into prostitution. This enraged Jitendra, leading him to allegedly strangle Sonia with a rope.
Sonia’s decomposed body was discovered on April 24, after an unbearable stench emanated from the couple’s rented home in Jawahar Colony. Neighbors had complained about the foul smell, and Jitendra had told his landlord that it was due to a dead rat. He had hidden Sonia’s body in a cavity within their bed, attempting to cover it with clothes and incense sticks, but the smell was overpowering.
The police were alerted by Jitendra’s 78-year-old mother, who said her son had confessed to the murder before fleeing the scene. Crime Branch officials swiftly apprehended Jitendra in Gochhi village after he had been on the run.
Jitendra, currently unemployed, and Sonia were once married before their spouses passed away and had been living together for 10 years. Police revealed that the couple had rented the first floor of a medium-sized, two-storey building. They are now preparing to file charges, including the hiding of the body charge, as they await the post-mortem report.
Police officials are optimistic about a swift trial under the newly implemented criminal laws, which will enable the case to be concluded within 90 days.
