BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) – A Jefferson County drug raid has led to the arrest of a 68-year-old man and the discovery of a substantial indoor marijuana grow operation.

Narcotics detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence in the 6000 block of Warrior River Road. Inside, they uncovered approximately 26 marijuana plants of various sizes, including one that was nearly 9 feet tall. Dried marijuana was also found at the location.

Jimmy Eugene McDowell was taken into custody and is facing charges of drug trafficking. He is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $500,000.

During the search, officers also seized several firearms, including a Rossi .38 revolver, a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield .380 caliber handgun, and a Remington .22 caliber rifle. Additional items confiscated included ammunition, marijuana seeds, and drug packaging materials.

Sheriff Mark Pettway expressed his gratitude to the community for their continued support.

“Our citizens continue to help us fight crime in Jefferson County. They play such an invaluable role in helping to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. We want them to know how truly amazing they are to us,” Pettway said.

The case remains under investigation.
